This article covers some techniques for using Loopy Pro's timeline/sequencer in non-typical ways. Loopy Pro's timeline is a flexible tool that can be used for more than simple linear playback of a sequence. This page provides some tricks for supercharging the timeline.

Dummy Clips

Many timeline hacks make use of dummy clips. These are silent clips with play and/or stop follow actions that can be placed in the timeline to trigger actions when the silent clip starts or stops.

‘Queue Next’ Project

This project demonstrates one method of switching up the order of timeline sequence playback on-the-fly. Want to go back to the bridge after the current section or jump to the end? We've got you covered.

How It Works

This project uses a dummy clip with Stop Clip follow action that can jump to a new timeline location. A stepped dial is used to set where the timeline jumps to via the Seek Timeline action. You can use MIDI bindings to set the jump location. After each jump the dial resets itself to do nothing. You can select the jump location (usually via MIDI) any time during a section, and it will be trigger at end of any of the magenta dummy clips added to the timeline.

Section Navigation & Repeats

This project demonstrates how to set up buttons to navigate the timeline and set up repeating sections. The download includes a pdf and tutorial widgets that describe how the project works.

Main Features
  • Go To buttons - jump to any sequence section.
  • Go & Repeat buttons - jump to any section and repeat.
  • Repeat Section On/Off - turn section looping on/off.
  • Toggle Sequence button - turn the sequencer on and off to mix sequenced and pure-live looping

NOTE: When a sequence is playing, your live-looping features are available. You can live loop while using sequenced accompaniment.

Sequencer/Live-Loop Hybrid Example

This project switches between using the timeline sequencer for pre-sequenced backing tracks and live looping. It uses a single trigger to accomplish all the switching. I hope that this example is both simple enough to understand and rich enough to hint at the almost infinite possibilities that these techniques make possible.
